The Goethe-Institut Myanmar is seeking a committed and experienced colleague for the position of Financial Administrator, starting from June 2026. The position is part of a multi‑year initiative supported by the European Union and will be offered on a three‑year fixed‑term contract.

About the Goethe-Institut and the Project

The Goethe‑Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, active worldwide. It promotes the German language abroad, fosters international cultural cooperation, and supports dialogue between civil societes.

The Academy of Care (AoC) is a flagship initiative of the Goethe‑Institut Myanmar focusing on creative arts therapies, trauma‑informed care, and community‑based approaches to trauma recovery, mental health, and psychosocial support (MHPSS).

Funded by the European Union, the project strengthens professional training, capacity building, and resilience in Myanmar’s care sectors. It promotes local and regional exchange and supports inclusive care practices for diverse communities across the country. By advancing the integration of creative arts therapies into mental health and wellbeing services, the AoC contributes to more holistic, accessible, and culturally responsive support systems in Myanmar.

Position Overview 

The Financial Administrator is responsible for the financial administration of the AoC project, ensuring full compliance with EU funding regulations and Goethe-Institut internal guidelines and procedures. The role supports transparent accounting and administrative coordination across all project activities.
Key responsibilities include recording and tracking programme expenses in the financial system, maintaining accurate financial documentation, assisting with budget monitoring, supporting procurement processes, and contributing to timely and accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & financial administration

  • Record and post bank and cash transactions accurately in the accounting system
  • Manage the cash register and prepare daily cash reports
  • Handle payment transactions via banks and ensure timely settlement of liabilities
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready financial documentation

Invoices & payroll support

  • Receive, review, verify, and forward incoming invoices
  • Handle correspondence related to cash management, payments, and invoice processing
  • Support payroll and salary accounting, including preparation of payroll taxes and social security contributions, in coordination with relevant internal and external parties

Reporting & coordination

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports in coordination with the line manager
  • Maintain communication and liaison with public authorities, banks, and external institutions
  • Support financial and administrative aspects of visa applications for employees
  • Handle customs-related financial and administrative matters where required

Administration & support

  • Maintain structured financial records and digital filing systems in line with internal policies
  • Support procurement-related documentation, expense tracking, and internal cost controls
  • Carry out general administrative tasks related to finance and office operations
  • Perform other tasks related to the position, as required and agreed

Qualifications and Requirements 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with 2–3 years of professional experience in accounting, finance, or a similar role
  • Experience in working in administrative settings and/or international organisations/donors
  • Familiarity in guidelines with procurement and compliance
  • Very good proficiency in English (written and spoken) and knowledge of German
  • Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and prioritise effectively
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured, detail-oriented approach
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when handling deadlines, audits, or unexpected financial issues
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, discretion, and sense of responsibility
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to a positive and professional work environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable

  • Experience in project administration and budget control, preferably within donor-funded projects
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and financial procedures
  • Experience with digital financial systems or ERP software (e.g. SAP)
  • Strong documentation skills and familiarity with structured digital filing systems
