As the summer holidays approach, 14-year-old Maik Klingenberg has little to look forward to. His mother is re-admitted to rehab clinic and his father takes off with his young female assistant on a “business” trip. Both a loner and an outcast, Maik is secretly in love with class-mate Tatiana, who is oblivious to his feelings and excludes him from her birthday celebrations. But then a new boy arrives at school and things start to look brighter for Maik. Andrej Tschichatschow –Tschick for short – comes from rural Russia and lives in a high-rise flat in Berlin-Marzahn. One day Tschick appears at Maik’s house in a stolen car. The two friends take off on a spontaneous adventure through the East German countryside without a map, compass or destination...
