With William Wongso, Petty Elliot, Vincent Rumahloine, Alexander Hicks, Daw Phyu Phyu Tin, and Ade Putri Paramadita.

Chili’s use as a food flavoring and seasoning complement in some regions in Southeast Asia is immensely popular. And in Germany? Do Germans also use chili in their food every day as in Southeast Asia?

Chili is about food and culture in Southeast Asia. Its influence on gastronomy is evident in special menus characteristic of the different Southeast Asian cultures. Chili also affects the economy. For example, in Indonesia an increase in chili prices may impact inflation, especially with respect to food, beverages and tobacco.

Thus, it’s no surprise that Goethe-Institut Jakarta together with Goethe-Institut Bandung, Bangkok and Yangon will host a live talk entitled “Chili Culture in Southeast Asia and Germany” as part of the “Goethe is(s)t scharf” project. The streamed talk features professionals in various fields from Indonesia, Germany and Myanmar who will discuss the development of chili culture in Southeast Asia and Germany and the role of chili in everyday life.

The event is open to the public and is free with registration. Register and join us!
