Feature films offer emotional access to language, culture, and history—especially when they revolve around a topic that excites people worldwide: football. This workshop focuses on two key films: Das Wunder von Bern (2003) and Wochenendrebellen (2023).
Using selected scenes, we analyze how football can serve as a mirror of societal developments—whether it’s the rebuilding of the Federal Republic after World War II or today’s approaches to diversity, disability, and inclusion. We also explore football myths, historical facts, and cultural interpretations.
Teachers will receive concrete lesson suggestions for using the films at various proficiency levels, including didactic materials, creative task formats, and methods for scene analysis.
The goal is to combine language learning with emotional depth and cultural education—and to make German lessons an engaging experience through film.
This workshop is eligible to receive professional development hours or graduate-level credits through our partner Idioma Education & Consulting. Visit goethe.de/usa/idioma for more information.
Speaker: Cornelius Partsch
