The process of learning a new language and the inability to fully express oneself in one’s native tongue becomes a painful experience for the artists, felt as a fragmentation of their identity. How many words must be learned to feel closer to oneself? What distance must be overcome to share your story, to joke again, or to understand others’ jokes? Using the "Swadesh List" of 207 German words and taking 755 steps, the artists strive to feel whole again.

aliveduo (Alena Starostina & Ivan Nikolaev)

aliveduo is the collaborative artistic partnership of Alena Starostina and Ivan Nikolaev, focusing on performative and visual art.
In their projects, they work with the concept of “time” in performative practice and are interested in searching for a non-standard approach to the chosen material. 
Combining their extensive backgrounds in acting, directing, and performance, they create experimental works that explore the intersections of theater, modern art, and multimedia.
