Please note: films are screened in the following order:

„A Praga“ by Igor Vidor

The Plague juxtaposes footage of a small town in the German countryside with sequences of police operations from over 50 hours of archival footage collected by the artist. The film examines lethal connections between Oberndorf am Neckar, its local arms industry, and the export of violence and terror to Latin America, based on more than a century of the weapons trade.

„The Sound of Silence" by Vahid Zarezadeh

In the aftermath of the Iran-Iraq war, as psychological disorders consumed Iranian society, victims were confined to secretive psychiatric hospitals, their stories silenced.

„What Do The Birds Say?" by Emrah Gökdemir

What Do Birds Say? follows the director’s walks through Antakya between 2017 and 2024, tracing bird paintings encountered along the way and the story of a Syrian artist who created them. Through the eyes of witnesses, the documentary opens a window into the struggle for survival of this artist, an individual whose identity remains unknown even today. It also sheds light on the socio-economic and cultural relations between the residents of Antakya and Syrians.

„Come Rain or Shine" by Zeynep Güzel

In Come Rain or Shine, the director Zeynep Güzel travels from Turkey to Armenia to map out the history that is embedded in this post Soviet industrial geography. The only signs of an industry which was once active are rusty pipes and decrepit buildings in this now desolate landscape where the population has likewise decreased. Despite all the difficulties, Ashot and Karin continue to live here. The interviews carried out with them and the poem-like letters by the director guide the audience. As the director scans the settings with her camera, she is searching for traces of her own Armenian family history while also seeking answers to the question “which places, which people, which objects can be the bearer of history?”

After the screening we invite you to a Q&A with the filmmakers. The Q&A will be moderated by Anna Karpenko.

Igor Vidor explores mechanisms of power and oppression through his sculptures, objects, and videos. His works show signs of violence and social injustice deeply rooted in everyday life. The artist reflects how these conditions repeat themselves, perpetuating symbols of violence that end up taking on new meanings. He allows us to reflect on how this friction contributes to a scenario of intermittent and apparently insoluble violence that finds echoes and recurrence in the history of Brazil and Latin America.
His works have been featured in numerous exhibitions in Brazil, Europe, Korea, Japan, and the US. In 2016, he was the first Brazilian invited to participate in the International Fellowship Program by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul – MMCA. During the 2018 presidential elections, suffers a series of death threats, from illegal paramilitary forces in Brazil. He leaves the country supported by German institutions for the protection of artists at risk.

Vahid Zarezadeh is an Iranian-born filmmaker and human rights activist. His documentaries focus on pressing social issues such as political repression, torture, and the lives of marginalized communities. His work aims to create awareness and foster empathy, pushing for social change.
