Shaped by political censorship and a conservative environment, Ludmila Pogodina’s mode of expression developed as a form of socially conscious entertainment. Just as our surroundings shape our language, she believes that music, in turn, can shape our environment.

By reclaiming agency and crafting a narrative rooted in one woman's lived experience—amplified by the voices of many other women—Ludmila Pogodina highlights the power of mutual learning, solidarity across difference, and the collective empowerment of her community. Her work speaks to gender roles and seeks to challenge them by centering voices from the queer community as well as those of allies. It is about navigating multilingual realities while standing in support of one another—about celebrating through music, even when the celebration itself becomes a radical act of resistance.

Ludmila Pogodina

Ludmila Pogodina is multidisciplinary artist and curator from Belarus. Graduated in photo/journalism, Pogodina has worked in international independent media for 20 years, conducting interviews at the intersection of culture, society and politics. In 2011, Pogodina transformed her journalistic experience into that of an artist and art director. In 2015 she co-founded an art collective rooted in feminism, inclusion and diversity, with a focus on developing horizontal connections and community empowerment - using music and art as a platform that brings people together for further discussion. The result has been more than a hundred of organised events ranging from art labs and themed parties to festivals.
In 2022 Pogodina had to leave Belarus, she moved to Berlin and continued working on her autofiction book. Her artistic projects and curatorial work aim to question gender roles, power structures and imposed social narratives.
Artist-in-Residence at the Altrove/Anderswo/Ailleurs writer's residency as part of the Kultur Ensemble Palermo - a joint programme by Goethe-Institut and Institut Français, 2023.
Jury member of “Confrontations – Human Rights Film Competition” at the International Short Film festival Berlin - Interfilm, 2022.
