For Black bodies in the Western world, integration is not neutral; it is a negotiation of survival. It is an ongoing performance in systems designed without us in mind, a slow bending of the self to fit the architecture of colonial histories that still dictate who belongs and who remains other. It is navigating bureaucracy in a language that is not your mother tongue, moving through streets where your presence is always a question, where your very being is met with suspicion, curiosity, or violence. Integration, we are told, is the pathway to belonging — but belonging cannot be built on a foundation that demands you shrink yourself to enter.

As a mother and transdisciplinary artist, my practice navigates the interstices of ecological sonic systems, landscape memory, and embodied knowledge. Rooted in field recording, my work engages listening as an act of attunement, a method of deep ecological connection that resists the anthropocentric noise of modernity. Through attentive sonic inquiry, I approach listening not merely as a sensory activity but as a decolonial practice of presence, reciprocity, and remembrance, allowing for a more intimate relationship with the more-than-human world.
