In 2005, the Goethe-Institut e.V. has been appointed by the German Federal Foreign Office to create a German network of civil society organisations for the “Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures” and to act as Head of the German Network. The network embraces currently more than 190 members, including public institutions, NGOs, welfare associations, political and cultural organisations, theatres, foundations and media.

Anna Lindh Foundation

The German Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) has set itself the objective of focusing its activities on enabling intercultural encounters of people across the Euro-Mediterranean region with a special focus on cultural activities. In cooperation with 41 national civil society networks of the Euromediterranean partnership and the secretariat of the ALF in Alexandria, the network works on culturally and politically relevant projects concerning the intercultural dialogue across the region to increase the visibility of ALF-topics in the public debate.

The Anna Lindh Foundation sees itself as a network of networks that now brings together more than 4,500 member organizations in 42 Member States working on common programs and issues in Europe and its Southern Neighbourhood.

In each country, the network is headed and coordinated by a partner organization. In Germany, the Goethe-Institut e.V. has been appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affair to fulfil this task.
