Internationale Deutscholympiade 2024

The IDO is legendary. Known as a major international celebration of the German language, the 2024 edition of the contest comes to Göttingen! Young participants will compete for the title of best learner of the German language and also embark on a journey of discovery through the green city of science. In national preliminary rounds, around 50 countries around the world are now preparing for the grand IDO final in Göttingen from 15 to 22 July 2024. It’s taking part that counts!

Nationale Deutscholympiade in Bangladeh

High school students who have qualified at A2, B1 or B2 level in a Nationale Deutscholympiade (NDO), or any other accredited national selection procedure, are eligible to compete in the IDO. Contestants must be between 14 and 17 years of age.

The following persons are not eligible to take part in the IDO:

  • Students whose mother tongue is German or who have at least one native German-speaking parent.
  • Students who have lived for more than six months at a time in a German-speaking country.
  • Students at German schools abroad or private schools whose principal language of instruction and communication is German.
  • Students who are already of legal age (18 or older).
  • Students already enrolled to study at a university.
  • Students who provide false information about themselves will be disqualified and/or stripped of their titles.
  • Two contestants per country, whether at the same or different language levels, may compete in Dresden.

Students with at least A2 level of German will complete an online registration form through their respective German teachers at their institution. Based on merit, selected students will be invited to the national preliminary round in Bangladesh.

The national preliminary round will be held at the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh. The exact date is yet to be determined. Participants with the best results in the national preliminary round will be selected to travel to Göttingen, Germany to participate in the final round of IDO-2024.
