„Wovon sollen wir träumen"

As part of its ‘Europanetzwerk Deutsch’ programme, the Goethe-Institut Brussels, in collaboration with the Saarland’s Representation to the EU, invites you to a screening of ‘Wovon sollen wir träumen’. The feature film won the 2026 AUDIENCE AWARD FOR FEATURE FILMS at the renowned Max Ophüls Film Festival in Saarland. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the directors.

Outside a food bank, three women whose lives could hardly be more different cross paths. A racist incident brings them together for a few moments and sets off a chain of events that lays bare their deepest wounds, hopes and fears. Laura, recently released from prison, is trying to build a new life for herself and come to terms with her painful past. Evîn, who once fought in a women’s unit in Syria, is now struggling in Germany to find stability and a sense of belonging, and the chance to stand up for her convictions. Police officer Julia, meanwhile, is battling against increasingly threatening violence in her own marriage behind the façade of a well-ordered family life. Whilst each of the three women is waging her own personal struggle for survival, they are connected by more than they realise: a longing for self-determination, dignity and a life free from fear. With great emotional intensity, *What Should We Dream Of?* tells a story of courage, vulnerability and the strength to stand up against injustice.
A moving drama about three lives that intersect for just a moment – and yet are touched by one another in a way that changes their lives.
