Information about our German exams

Examination location All examinations take place exclusively at the Goethe-Institut Brussels. Even digital examinations on computers are only conducted as in-person examinations. Examination dates Goethe Certificate A1–C2: Regularly in February, June, September and November. Additional dates may be added in the medium term. Individual exam dates are available on request (additional fee of €150, non-refundable in case of cancellation/rebooking). Exam times Written and oral exams always take place on the same day. B1, B2, C1, C2: Written: 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Oral: 1:15 p.m.–5:00 p.m. A1 and A2: Start at variable times, usually the written and oral parts take place one after the other in the morning You will receive the binding times with your exam invitation at least one week before the date. Exam format Exams B1, B2 and C1 are usually taken on a computer. The A1 exam will also be offered as a digital exam from autumn 2025. Results & certificates Results and certificates are sent digitally approximately 4 weeks after the exam. You can view and download the certificate at MeinGoethe.de . No information about exam results can be provided by telephone or in writing.

Registration for an exam

Goethe Certificate: Online registration no later than 14 days before the exam date Later registration is possible if places are available The B1, B2, C1 and C2 exams are modular exams. The modules do not have to be taken all at once. Individual modules can be booked online. TestDaF (digital): Registration approx. up to 1 week before the date via www.testdaf.de

‘English is a must, German is a plus.’ We offer teachers from Belgian schools the opportunity to hold Goethe-Institut certificate examinations on site . The prerequisite is a minimum of 22 examinees.

German has the most native speakers in the European Union. Alongside English, German plays a key role as a language of business and culture and provides improved opportunities on the employment market – including in Belgium!

A German certificate from the Goethe-Institut attests language skills worldwide at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

REQUIREMENTS

All Goethe-Institut examinations can also be taken by external candidates if they have the appropriate language level. Attending a preparatory course is nevertheless recommended. We will be happy to advise you!
