Werkplaats Walter

Focus: improvisation, ethnic and folk music, 20-25.05.2022 in Brussels

The Goethe-Institut and Bozar together with Werkplaats Walter in Belgium and the Amman Jazz Festival in Jordan start a music residency programme in 2021/2022 and are looking for six motivated emerging professional musicians from both the Arab World and Europe to meet, exchange ideas and perform in Brussels (Belgium) from 20.05. to 25.05.2022. The concept of the residency programme is to focus on free improvisation, experimentation, real live exchange of musical ideas. It aims at bringing together musicians not necessarily knowing each other and giving them the opportunity to perform, improvise, experiment and search for common grounds together.

The residency programme consists in a cycle of three residencies all taking place in Brussels. This open call deals with the second residency focusing on improvisation, ethnic and folk music and taking place from 20.05. to 25.05.2022. The last residency in fall 2022 will focus on a larger ensemble with possibility of participation of the artists of the first two residencies. The open call for the third residency will be published by early summer 2022.

Each residency will result in a concert at the Centre for Fine Arts Brussels. The residency will provide a mentorship programme according to the needs and expectations of the selected artists.

Please note that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this residency programme could be postponed if necessary.

Deadline for the application is 10 February 2022 at 6:00 pm (CET). Apply online: https://bit.ly/3GFlkUB
