Africa is/in the Future

Closing party |Fréquences diasporiques with CHO ROOM

CHO ROOM Florian Toss

Afrofuturism and African contemporary history: these are the core themes of the multidisciplinary festival Africa is/in the Future. For the closing, DJ duo CHO ROOM brings electronic beats and Afro-diasporic rhythms from Hamburg – the future starts on the dance floor.

The tenth edition of Africa is/in the Future focuses on the idea and aesthetics of transmission. Transmission here is a quest in itself – it is not limited to what one says or does: it deeply affects who one is. Transmission is a transition, an echo, a matter in constant motion. It also serves as an instrument of resistance, reinvention and reappropriation, especially for Afro-descendant and Afro-diasporic communities.

The festival combines discussions, workshops, film screenings and performances.

A proposal by La Bellone, curated by Marie Umuhoza. In partnership with Kaaitheater, Charleroi danse, VK Vaartkapoen, Cinéma Nova, Médiathèque Nouvelle, La Serre and Cinéma Galeries.
