Tribute to Harun Farocki

The Politics of Archival Film II: Confronting the Violence of History - A Tribute to Harun Farocki (1944-2014)

As part of the film and discussion cycle The Politics of Archival Film II: Confronting the Violence of History - A Tribute to Harun Farocki (1944-2014) organised by Rémy Besson (CRIalt) and Philippe Despoix (UdeM) with the collaboration of Regine Strätling (CCÉAE).

This film series provides a forum for research and discussion on the positions of documentary filmmakers working with archives and their explicit or implicit political implications. It emphasises the value of an intermedia approach that links the question of the choice of archival material (photo, silent film, video, digital) with the way it is edited, which involves technical transfers, and with the forms of social memory that the dissemination of these productions helps to create. This quarter's cycle is entirely dedicated to the documentary filmmaker Harun Farocki, who died ten years ago.

This cycle will continue with two international days dedicated to Harun Farocki on 21-22 March 2024 (Carrefour des arts et des sciences and CCÉAE, UdeM) and five screenings at the Cinémathèque québécoise (15 March to 22 March).
