Self-portrait of the illustrator EL BOUM with rainbow and flowers Iluustration: EL BOUM

EL BOUM, Jasmina El Bouamraoui, is a German-Moroccan illustrator from Berlin. Their illustrations move through a range of bright and popping colours with block-like shapes and textures. The time they spent in screen-printing studios during their studies at the University of the Arts, Berlin, as well as queer and decolonial politics, have had a decisive influence on the bright blocks of colour in their work. Their hand-drawn work has a fresh feel and invites the viewer to question clichés of all kinds.

In November/December 2019, EL BOUM was the resident guest of the Goethe-Institut in Helsinki and has since been working with the Goethe-Institut Finnland on the DRIN project.
