DAOWO (Distributed Autonomous Organisations With Others) Summit UK facilitates cross-sector engagement with leading researchers and key artworld actors to discuss the current state of play and opportunities available for working with blockchain technologies in the arts. Whilst bitcoin continues to be the overarching manifestation of blockchain technology in the public eye, artists and designers have been using the technology to explore new representations of social and cultural economies, and to redesign the art world as we see it today.

Discussions, talks and conversations during the DAOWO Summit will focus on potential impacts, technical affordances and opportunities for developing new blockchain technologies for fairer, more dynamic and connected cultural ecologies and economies. Two UK events are planned as a precursor to a DAOWO World Tour and Summit that seeks to forge a transnational network of arts and blockchain cooperation.

In February DAOWO comes to Edinburgh in partnership with Department of Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and New Media Scotland.  At the Summit in Edinburgh Ruth Catlow and Ben Vickers give a talk about the developments from critical practice to the business of arts and the blockchain. Followed by a discussion hosted by Clive Gilman. Furthermore, a panel discussion hosted by Prof Chris Speed and Mark Daniels takes place with 5 creative practitioners whose work allows us to experience the otherwise abstract technology of blockchain. What value does the blockchain bring to collecting art? Ruth Catlow in conversation with Marianne Magnin, London Director of Arteïa.
