Head of Language Courses (M/F/D)

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with global outreach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural co-operation. Employment will be full-time with 39 hours per week. The starting salary in the Goethe-Institut’s remuneration scheme is £ 49,572.00 p.a for this position. Annual leave is 26 days plus Bank Holidays. The Goethe-Institut offers a contributory pension scheme and includes all staff in opportunities for personal development.

Duties comprise:

Language Course Management
  • Organization and coordination of all language course and examination operations in London and Glasgow, as well as online formats
  • Conceptualization and further development of language course work within the framework of strategic priorities, in close coordination with the Head of Language Department
  • Planning and managing the budget for the language course and examination areas, including working with the planning system “PLUS”
  • Supporting the Head of Language Department in the controlling of language course and examination operations in London and Glasgow
  • Creation of timetables, allocation planning for teachers, statistical reporting, and management of the language course office
  • Further development of digital learning formats in London and Glasgow and responsibility for digital process optimization within the language course area
  • Expansion of course and examination offerings for children and young people
  • Further development of the local marketing strategy and use of social media and targeted communication channels
  • Quality management and execution of audits
  • Collaboration with educational service department, e.g., GIMAGINE and PASCH
  • Collaboration with examination partners and expansion of the national examination network
  • Cooperation with British and European institutions on language course and examination topics
Personnel Management
  • Selection, onboarding, support, and evaluation of teachers and other employees in the language department.
  • Coordination of the "Grünes Diplom" program.

Requirements:

  • Completed academic university degree and solid qualifications in the field of German as a Foreign Language
  • Strategic and conceptual competence, with the ability to sustainably develop language course work and align it with institutional goals
  • Strong management and leadership skills, particularly in personnel management, team coordination, and working with international teams
  • Business management skills for the economic management of language course and examination operations, including budget responsibility, controlling, and performance indicator management
  • Very strong organizational and coordination skills in planning complex course and examination operations, as well as in resource and staff allocation
  • Proven experience in marketing, customer acquisition, and public relations for educational offerings
  • Solid didactic and methodological expertise in German as a Foreign Language, teaching experience, and experience in quality assurance and the application of quality standards
  • Excellent digital and IT skills, particularly in course and examination management systems, learning platforms, MS Office, and digital teaching and learning formats
  • Strong social, intercultural, and personal competencies, including communication skills, assertiveness, resilience, and flexibility
  • Very good German and English skills (at least C1 level) as well as regional cultural experience.
