A performative interventions in which pole & aerial artists Jenny Smith and Nicole Tait will activate new objects from the series PARTs by visual artist Michaela Zimmer.
Michaela Zimmer’s cross-disciplinary practice visualises collectively experienced physical movement. Repeated motion sequences are inscribed as physical resonance into our body memory. After analysing protocols of this process, she transfers the results in abstracted form to paintings which get cut out and sewn into wearable objects. These PARTs are activated in international collaborations. Following the activation process performative interventions based on shared sensorimotor and aesthetic processes are jointly created. Photographs and site-specific installations accompany the process.
Jenny Smith is a dancer from Scotland who runs Freebird Studio where the performance will be held. For over ten years Jenny has taught in the field of pole dance and aerialist acrobatics after having graduated in Textile Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (2010). A passionate believer in movement for everybody - for health (physical and mental), as expression, and as a means of connection - Jenny is enthusiastic to bring different modes of creative practice together.
Nicole Tait is a Scottish pole and aerialist artist who runs Perth's Get Fit and Fly, a passionate dance studio and gym that's all about moving.
