Video Art Screening & Discussion Posthuman Solidarities

A person with shoulder-long light brown hair is looking towards their hand, which is placed on a green tube. The person is wearing a white and blue item of clothing, which is translucent around the arms. They have a light green eyeshadow at the edge of their eye, between the eye and the nose. They are standing in-between horizontal green translucent tubes, which are all interconnected. © Video still from the video “SOLIDARITIES (Farm)” by Stefan Hurtig, 2023/24 part of the “Posthuman: Solidarities” Videocity screening.

The “Posthuman Solidarities” screening envisions scenarios where humans may no longer be at the core, painting pictures of realms populated by microorganisms, living machines made of organic materials or entirely novel modes of being. The programme consists of short video works by six artists from Germany and England.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Stefan Hurtig (artist Leipzig), Chen Di (artist London), Duncan Poulton (co-curator London) and James Stephen Wright (Videocity co-head, Newcastle).

Curated by Frank Eckhardt, Andrea Domesle, Polina Chizhova, Duncan Poulton.

“Posthuman Solidarities” is a co-production resulting from a two-year exchange between SET and Videocity & riesa efau that focuses on exploring (art) communities in Dresden and London thanks to Cultural Bridge. The video works will be presented in an upcoming exhibition at riesa efau – Kultur Forum Dresden
