“Tina Kosasih and Joi Rumengan” is a multimedia performance and exhibition project initiated by Suina Latersia and Tegar Pratama, who collaborated with seven artists and Goethe-Institut Bandung. The short story “Tina Kosasih and Joi Rumengan” by Suina Latersia and Tegar Pratama is the basis for further artistic exploration. In addition to the love story of the protagonists and the social implications, the project examines the relationship between public and private space.
A wedding in Indonesia is traditionally a personal as well as collective event, blurring the line between private and public space. In the Tina Kosasih and Joi Rumengan exhibition, the artists experiment with these dual functions and temporarily take over the space of the Goethe-Institut. It functions as streets, houses and neighborhoods that are deliberately altered by a celebration, briefly distorting their regular function.
In Goethe-Institut’s parking area, the artist Dea Widya draws attention to the temporary conversion with a large and colorful installation. In the library, the other artists present their works and transform the library into a living archive with memories of Tina Kosasih and Joi Rumengan. The sounds created by Dhimasvani Erwin, the illustrations of Ari Nugraha, and the animations of Agung Yandistira are, in this context, gifts for the wedding couple. They are intended to bring them happiness and always remind them of their special day and their friends. Because the gifts are not, as usual, in a private space but rather in the library of Goethe-Institut, good fortune extends to all visitors at the exhibition.
Suina Latersia has participated in cultural exchange with numerous artists from Mexico and Ukraine and is the founder of the Bacadome Library and the art group Yesyesyes.
Tegar Pratama is a writer and university lecturer who works a great deal at the interface where the visual meets performative arts.
