Exhibition in the framework of the project “Wanderlust Küche"

Indonesian cuisine is unique in its richness and regional diversity.

The photo exhibition Indonesian Culinary Photography features selected works from a competition on food photography held by Goethe-Institut throughout Indonesia.

The exhibition introduces the visitor to foods, ingredients and recipes from all over the archipelago: From the culinary traditions of Timika, Papua to the world of Acehnese spices, the works shed light on very local and at times not very broadly known culinary traditions. But the photographs in the exhibition do not only reflect the variety and broad cultural diversity of Indonesian cuisine. They also raise awareness of the importance to preserve this variety of dishes and ingredients in a time of rapid sociocultural change

The exhibition features the 15 best works out of 321 submissions that Indonesian food photographers have submitted for the exhibition – each consisting of a photograph and an accompanying story that describes the background of the dish and the context it is embedded in.

The exhibition is part of “Wanderlust Küche”, a culinary project of the Goethe-Institut in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
