Design Matters Lab Residency

Exhibition|Five designers from Indonesia and five from Europe are collaborating on a co-production project with a micro-factory in Bandung to transform the industrial model by utilising alternative materials, durable product designs, and sustainable production systems.

With focus of this programme will equip teams of designers and micro-factories to transform ideas into reality. Through online workshops, on-site residencies, and market-testing activities for participants will innovate new products and prepare them for global exposure and impact.

After going through the whole series, which lasted about 6 months, the group of designers and micro-factories finally arrived at the final presentation of the product they had developed. The presentation of the prototype, which took place in December 2024, provided a lot of input and comments from different audiences, which certainly became important points in the development of the product and the discourse on how initiation and innovation in the concept of industrialisation can work in harmony with culture and the environment.

The exhibition will not only present the final products, but also the process of collaboration, dialogue and application between 10 product and material designers from Europe and Indonesia and 5 micro-factories from Bandung. Visitors will also be invited to make a comprehensive assessment of the products on display.
