German-Turkish writer and journalist Fatma Aydemir will be attending the Makassar International Writers Festival (MIWF) 2018 with her first novel "Ellbogen”.
In its eighth year of implementation, Makassar International Writers Festival (MIWF) is highlighting the theme of "Voice / Noise". On this occasion Goethe-Institut Indonesien will be participating once again by inviting a German writer to attend the annual literary festival.
The daughter of Turkish migrants, Fatma Aydemir was born in 1986 in the south of Germany. She studied German and American Studies in Frankfurt am Main. She has lived in Berlin since 2012 and is an editor for the daily newspaper taz. As a freelance author she also writes for numerous newspapers about pop culture, migration, feminism and racism.
Her debut novel entitled "Ellbogen", about the life of young migrants in Germany, was published in 2017. The novel was awarded the Klaus-Michael Kühne-Preis of the Harbour Front Literature Festival and has been adapted into a play, which was shown in several German cities. "Ellbogen" has been translated into Dutch and Turkish.
During MIWF, Fatma Aydemir will be accompanied by the Indonesian writer Feby Indirani, a rising author, who has published her latest novel "Bukan Perawan Maria ("Not Virgin Mary") last year.
