Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai aims to engage with the topic of masculinity, through its depiction in films and popular media. Using different engaging formats, the three projects planned in collaboration with Harkat Studios, aim to deconstruct the cinematic language used to portray and ascertain skewed ideas of masculinity in mainstream cinema, and provoke conversations to reexamine these popular constructs.​

First of all, when looking at the notion(s) of masculinity among adivasis, the category adivasi must be disaggregated and historicized to recognize the immense diversity among groups so described and the changing nature of their societies.

 The gender of nature

During the first performance as an actor in a play called Images of Feminity at Max Muller Bhavan, I was throwing balloons out of my blouse to the audience. It was more than just fun for a sixteen year old, more than she would realise it at that age. It was haunting, and thus began the game of altering myself through performed roles.

Mohan Rakesh penned three plays about three pairs in ASHAAD KA EK DIN (Kalidasa-Mallika), LEHRON KE RAJHANS (Nand-Sundari) and AADHE-ADHURE (Savitri-Mahendranath). In all three plays, the women are at fault. And the men sulk because their male egos have been punctured.

Heros and Gods
 A Mytho-Psychological Perspective on male masculinity

Jungian psychology studies journeys of hero and heroine in fairy tales and myths. Thus gods, goddesses and demons represent certain natural constants of the unconscious psyche, ways in which the emotional and imaginative elements of the personality behave.
