Applications are open to all emerging artists and cultural practitioners in and around the field of performing arts based in Lebanon who are at an early stage of their artistic career and wishing to pursue it further. The applicant(s) should have initial experience in their field of expertise and can apply as an individual or as a team of up to two people within one application; i.e. one joint project (e.g. an urban planner teaming up with a dancer, a sound engineer with a theatre performer, a choreographer with a graphic designer, etc.). The proposed projects should be new creations or at least in an early stage of development with a willingness to perform/show the state of the work to the public in autumn 2021. Projects do not have to be completed within the five-month period and are open to all kind of artistic directions within and related to the performing arts field. Applications are welcome regardless of age, nationality, sex, gender identity, ethnicity or religion.

After the application deadline, an internal review will be carried out to verify that the submitted applications are formally complete and comply with the guidelines. Only applications that fulfill all requirements will be processed. These will be forwarded to an external jury, which will carry out an evaluation and select the short-listed candidates who will be informed and invited to an interview (video call). After the interviews, the final list of eight participants (note: not eight projects) will be decided upon and announced. All applications will be assessed by the jury according to the following criteria: - Relation to the field of performing arts and related disciplines - Applicant’s aim of pursuing an artistic career - Applicants already having some experience in their field - Applicants preferably working with the intention of social engagement/addressing civil society - Commitment to the programme

The Goethe-Institut Libanon is pleased to announce an open call for applications and invites interested emerging artists and cultural practitioners in and around the field of performing arts to participate in the first edition of ArtEvolution which is taking place in Lebanon from May to November 2021.

The ArtEvolution programme is designed to provide a space for a socially committed and reflective artistic production as well as an adequate pedagogical and critical infrastructure to pursue artistic practices, exchange knowledge and expertise for critical, artistic and impactful production. The programme consists of a short-term residency workshop in Hammana-Artist House, a five-month funded reflection period in which participants work independently, a series of open panel discussions, an excursion to a German performance-festival (if pandemic travel restriction allows) as well as a platform for presenting participant's work in progress to the public.

Eight participants – be they individuals or teams of up to two persons – will be selected to take part in the programme, during which they will be accompanied through the project development process by established cultural practitioners in the corresponding fields while putting their projects into practice with the support of a research grant. The grant of 5000€ per person is disimbursed equally in five installments during the reflection period.
