Open Call: Curatorial Assistant (M/F/D)
(September 2025 – January 2026)
Goethe-Institut Myanmar invites applications for a Curatorial Assistant diverse backgrounds to support the multi-disciplinary visual arts project “Within & Beyond: Reimagining Art across Distances”, culminating in exhibitions in January 2026. We welcome applications from Myanmar emerging curators based in Myanmar, Southeast Asia, Germany, or other international locations who are passionate about contemporary visual art and eager to gain hands-on experience in curatorial practice through collaboration with artists and curators from Myanmar and beyond.
Project Concept
The project explores the notion of “distance and disconnection”—its impacts, transformations, and the connections and disconnections it creates. It reflects on how distance shapes closeness and separation, mutual understanding and empathy, as well as the similarities and differences that emerge across spaces.Initiated by Goethe-Institut Myanmar, this five-month program (September 2025 – January 2026) will involve online dialogue sessions, artwork production, and public exhibitions showcasing diverse perspectives and artistic works by Myanmar artists.
Timeline Overview
September 2025: Online dialogue sessions between artists from Myanmar and abroad, moderated by curators, to exchange experiences and generate exhibition concepts.October– November 2025: Artwork production phase. The Curatorial Assistant will support planning, coordination, and conceptual development alongside the curatorial team.
November - December 2025: Completion of all curatorial processes and exhibition preparation.
January 2026: Public exhibition at Goethe-Institut Myanmar and/or partnering spaces within and outside Myanmar, showcasing the outcomes of this collaborative process.
Role & Responsibilities
- The Curatorial Assistant will:
- Support curators throughout the conceptual and exhibition development process.
- Assist with artist coordination, scheduling, and communications.
- Participate in online discussions and preparatory meetings.
- Support exhibition planning, production logistics, and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with artists, curators, and project partners to ensure smooth project delivery.
Eligibility
Emerging Myanmar curators based in Myanmar, Southeast Asia, Germany, or other international locations are encouraged to apply. Those based outside the country are welcome to work remotely, and the working team will ensure the collaboration is as accessible and supportive as possible.Note: Travel and accommodation costs cannot be funded.
Open to emerging curators with an interest in contemporary visual art and curatorial practice.
Prior experience with exhibitions or art projects is an advantage but not required.
Must be available to actively participate during:
- Online sessions (September 2025)
- Artwork production & coordination phase (August – October 2025)
- Exhibition preparation & public events (October – November 2025, January 2026)
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- English language skills.
Honorarium
Selected Curatorial Assistant will receive a monthly honorarium equivalent to USD 200 for the contribution to the project.Application Requirements

Submission Process
Completed applications should be submitted via email to info.kultur.mmr@goethe.de no later than 17th August 2025 (Myanmar Time, 11:59 PM). Late submissions will not be considered.Selection Process
