The Goethe-Institut Myanmar is seeking a committed and experienced colleague for the position of Cultural Program Coordinator and Assistant to Director (30 hours/4 days per week), starting from 1 June 2026.

About the Goethe-Institut and the Position

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, active worldwide. It promotes knowledge of the German language abroad, fosters international cultural cooperation, and supports dialogue between civil societies.

The Goethe-Institut Myanmar is looking for a “Cultural Programme Coordinator” (50%) and an “Assistant to Director” (25%) starting on 1 June 2026. The position is particularly suitable for professionals of relevant creative sectors and with a strong interest in cultural project coordination and management / arts administration for an international cultural institution with at least three to five years of professional experience in the field. Experience in working with international organizations, as well as excellent English skills, is required.

50% Cultural Programme Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, implement, evaluate, report, and manage finances for cultural events, projects, and general programme work.
  • Manage administrative and operational needs of projects, events and programmes, including budgeting, planning, and reporting.
  • Develop action plans for projects and programs; ensure timely implementation.
  • Serve as active point of contact for all interlocutors involved.
  • Identify, maintain, and expand networks of artists/cultural agents in Myanmar Germany and Southeast Asia ; provide internal updates.
  • Cooperate with other departments and participate in trainings.
  • Adhere to confidentiality regarding project and organizational data, as well as the Institute’s inclusivity and diversity guidelines.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including updating project planning software and financial systems.
  • Assist management, especially in cultural work; contract preparation; writing funding applications, project summaries, and texts.
  • Conduct research and conceptual work to develop project ideas.
  • Coordinate artist/guest services and travel arrangements.
  • Maintain and expand partner networks locally, regionally, and internationally.
  • Handle internal and external communications and liaise with the auditorium and IT teams.
  • Support press and public relations work with the communication team.
  • Support recruitment processes and job advertisements for the culture department.
  • Actively contribute to annual planning, program conception, project development, and strategic implementation.
  • General office coordination: meetings, minutes, calendar management, and contact lists.
  • Other activities as assigned.

25% Assistant to the Director 

As assistant to the director, your responsibilities will include:
  • Handling travel arrangements and assisting with travel expense reports (hotel and flight bookings, car bookings, etc.).
  • Maintaining organized records, files, and documentation for the Director’s Office.
  • Scheduling appointments and managing the Director’s calendar.
  • Supporting the preparation of presentations, concept notes, briefing materials,and meeting minutes.
  • Organizing internal and external meetings, including related hospitality arrangements.
  • Taking minutes at cross-departmental team meetings and staff assemblies.
  • Providing translation and interpretation support.
  • Assisting the institute’s management with communication, press, and public relations–related activities.
  • Managing internal and external correspondence with partner organisations.
  • Supporting recruitment processes, including interview coordination and administrative follow-up.
  • Undertaking other activities as agreed.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required:
  • University degree or equivalent training.
  • Currently based in Yangon.
  • Minimum 3–5 years relevant experience in program coordination, arts administration, cultural resource management, or related fields.
  • Extensive interest and experience in cultural work in Myanmar with a strong network in the local creative scene, diverse cultural communities, and civil society.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Myanmar.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage budgets.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and reporting cultural events or programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • High resilience, self-motivated, team player, able to work in intercultural contexts.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Willingness to travel within Myanmar, to Germany, and internationally.

Desirable:

  • German language skills.
  • Interest and aptitude for hybrid/digital formats and technical tools.
  • Experience in proposal writing.
  • Networking skills across regional and international art and cultural scenes.
  • Knowledge of accessibility practices for people with disabilities or special needs.
