bangaloREsidency-Expanded 2025

The bangaloREsidency-Expanded is all about meaningful exchange and exposure to other art forms. The aim of this initiative is to establish long-term artistic exchange in a sustainable format, through a novel practice of collaboration wherein Indian artists get to live and work in Germany, gain access to the creative scene of the other culture and thereby enrich their own art practice. We have ten partners – spanning various art forms - across seven different German cities. The choice is wide and it's all yours!

Frequently Asked Questions

No.

The agreement with the partner organisations/local hosts generally applies to one bangaloREsident-Expanded. The accommodation options are also usually limited to one person. Applications from artist duos/collectives thus have lower chances of making it through the selection process. It is, however, not completely ruled out.

Yes.

Our partner organisations/local hosts are generally unable to provide support for family members. Please also bear in mind that accommodation and travel costs will be covered for the invited resident artist only.

To apply for a Schengen visa, please refer to the documents listed under the category: short-term visas for cultural visits. We will assist with the visaapplication submission process, once you have put together all of the necessary documents.

The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan will bear economy return airfare from Germany to Bangalore and cover the insurance. In addition, the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan offers 250 € per week to cover the daily expenses for the duration of the residency, which will be transferred to the host organisation, who will then pay it out to you in cash.

While cash is generally preferred in Germany, it is also possible to pay by credit card and visa cards. Travellers’ cheques/foreign currency can be encashed at designated locations. Make sure your bank is informed about your travel plans, so all services can be activated for access abroad. This stipend adequately covers daily board and routine expenses.

The resident is also offered a production budget of upto 1500 €.

We require that all applicants speak fluent English to overcome any potential language barriers while in Germany. We also offer selected residents the opportunity to take a German language course free of cost, if there is sufficient time before the residency.

Your host will advise you on the best option (usually a monthly pass) for the local transport network in the city you are going to. The German train and bus network cover the entire country so moving between cities is not difficult. Be sure to look out for saver options and discounts.

No, but your host can help you purchase a local SIM card.
The other easier option is to activate international roaming on your Indian number.

A detailed portfolio that offers clear information is the best option for us to get a good overview of your work. Please include links if possible.

Yes, repeat applications are permitted and will be included in the normal selection process, but former residents will not be invited a second time.
