Goethe auf Mallorca 2026

A total of two scholarships will be awarded. For this purpose, Casa Planas provides the document collection of the Planas Archive for interpretation, contextualization, and activation.

This program offers curatorial support, documentation, and dissemination of the creative process. Casa Planas may implement the results of the funded projects in a publishing project.

Conditions of Funding

Researchers, curators, designers, historians, poets, cultural producers, and creatives working in Germany and in the Balearic Islands(Mallorca)in the field of contemporary art.

The Goethe-Institut provides Casa Planas with the financial means to award and supervise the stays. This support can be combined with other sources of funding.

Submission materials at the end of the scholarship:
Grant recipients must submit a selection of photographs — from the Planas Archive or in dialogue with it — along with a text between 10 and 100 pages.

Dates:
An initial trip will take place from 29 June to 2 July 2026 to get to know the center.

Schedule:
The scholarship begins on 29 June and ends on 15 September. The documentation of results will be presented at the COSTA Congress on 23 and 24 October.

Projects will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Original proposals that activate and relate the archival material to interpret the cultural relationships between the Balearic Islands and Germany (rediscovery of historical figures, micro-histories, geopolitical relationships, visualizing cultural coexistence, etc.).
  • Inclusion of a climate and/or gender perspective.
  • Consistency of the proposal with the applicant’s trajectory.
The scholarships are awarded through an open call, respecting the principles of objectivity, equality, non-discrimination, and transparency.
The management of Casa Planas will make a preliminary selection.
The jury consists of a representative of the Goethe-Institut Barcelona, a representative of Casa Planas, and an external expert. A virtual meeting with selected candidates may be requested.

60% of the scholarship will be paid in advance, 40% upon completion of the scholarship.

  2. Portfolio or CV with 5 relevant projects (max. 5 pages).
  3. Summarized CV (max. 1 page).
  4. Summary of conceptual interests and research topics (max. 2 pages).
The documents may be submitted in Catalan, Spanish, or English.
 

Next application deadline

The deadline for submitting applications with the required documents is 30 March 2026.
