Narrow Backroads is a musical composition that employs a hybrid approach, seamlessly blending spatial audio, 360-degree video, 3D modeling, dynamic lighting and visual effects to deliver a real-time performative experience. Guided by a poetic narrative, the score explores the interplay between travel, geography, expanding consciousness and the impacts of globalization. Inspired by the Haiku "Oku no Hosomichi" by master Matsuo Bashô,the artists embark on an inner artistic pilgrimage, following in his footsteps to witness the Japanese landscapes that profoundly influenced his culture and later coloured the Western imaginary. During the journey, sounds, images, memories and writings are captured, which serve as foundational components of the composition. The creative process begins with a two-week trip to Japan and unfolds in working sessions in Barcelona and Berlin, bringing artistic innovation, international collaborations and cultural enrichment to both the initiator of the project and the local artistic communities involved.
