Raum / Raah

Projects 2024 | Round 14

Coproduction partners: Gaurav Singh (India), Claudia Grönemeyer (Germany)

A bench, shared by a stranger across the world
A street, carrying traces of a conversation of a city far away
An open space, shaped by eyes of those who see it (and those who can’t)

"Raum / Raah" is a multilingual, hybrid theatre performance that explores intricate relationships between people and public spaces in Bonn and New Delhi. It investigates learned behaviours, silent communication, and isolation in public areas. Through a combination of live performance, hybrid dramaturgy, documentary material and digital technologies, audiences in both cities encounter each other and explore questions like: Who dominates public spaces? How do immigrants learn unspoken social norms? Why do we experience isolation amidst crowds?

Theatre collectives fringe ensemble (Germany) and Kaivalya Plays (India) collaborate on this transcultural performance that questions the identity, politics, and traces of the spaces we occupy, revealing hidden narratives between public space and human connection.
