The GoetheVRsum is a virtual 3D environment in which you can meet other people. You can think of the GoetheVRsum as a multiplayer game. In this environment, you move around with a personalised avatar and explore different rooms. You can travel in an interactive and immersive way, take part in events in the fields of culture, language, education and creativity and have a lot of fun. The design takes the works of the Bauhaus artists as a source of inspiration and interprets them in a playful and contemporary way.
The GoetheVRsum is accessible in most devices (desktop, mobile and VR headset) via the app Engage. To download the right version for your device, go to https://engagevr.io/engage-download-list/. If you want to download Engage on your Goethe-Institut computer, please look for the app in the Unternehmensportal.
Anyone can attend the events at GoetheVRsum. Some events are private, so you will need an invitation to join. Before you join an event, make sure you download Engage and create an account. See “Onboarding” for details.
Anyone can organise an event in the GoetheVRsum. If you are interested, please fill in the contact form on this page.
The playful design of the space uses the works by Bauhaus artists as a source of inspiration and interprets them in a contemporary way. The stage area, for example, is inspired by the textile art of Gunta Stölzl. The forms of her weaving were freely translated into an architectural structure. In the Café, you can explore the geometric shapes that are inspired by the drawings of Wassily Kandinsky. Our customised avatars are also inspired by the work of Bauhaus artist. Can you guess who?
The GoetheVRsum was initiated based on a demonstrated interest in virtual worlds from various Goethe-Institute's worldwide. After several independent experiments, taking place in different platforms (e.g. VRChat, Hubs), the headquarters decided to invest in building a standard metaverse-like world to be used by all employees worldwide, as well as by partner organisations.
The GoetheVRsum was awarded with the initial capital for its development by the internal funding programme Innovationsfond , whereby employees can pitch an innovative idea that needs seed money.
The costs vary depending on your plans and whether you are a Goethe-Institut employee or an external partner or friend of ours. To get a quote, please fill in the contact form on this website.
