Open to EU staff and civil servants from EU Member States and candidate countries who have professional links with the EU institutions

Three state elections are due to take place in September 2026, the significance of which extends far beyond the respective federal states. The AfD is predicted to make significant gains in the polls. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt, recent polls put the party at 36 per cent and 41 per cent respectively (as of July 2026).
The elections could bring about lasting changes to Germany’s political landscape. They will show whether the democratic centre can still form stable majorities, or whether Saxony-Anhalt will become the first federal state with an AfD-led government. What political consequences would this entail?
You can discuss this at two course sessions taking place shortly before the election dates. The two sessions build on each other only to a limited extent and can therefore be attended independently of one another.
