How can we encourage students of German from 6th grade onwards to discuss the Holocaust in an age-appropriate manner? In this workshop, we will explore how to support empathy and the ability for historical thinking, taking into account the Canadian cultural and historical context.

In many Canadian provinces, critical thinking is one of the most important global learning objectives of the public school system. In this workshop, we will see how German learners from 10th grade onwards can synthesize and analyze information, evaluate action options, and justify opinions using the infamous experiment by psychologist Stanley Milgram.
