Following the 2021 Frankfurt Book Fair, Swiss publisher Annette Beger has purchased the translation rights for Marie-Anne Legault's novel La traque du Phénix from Québec Amérique. The German translation is scheduled to appear in the fall of 2023. In November, the publisher, author and translator Jennifer Dummer will meet in Montréal. This will be an opportunity to exchange ideas about the text, as the rough version of the translation is ready and waiting for revision.
Thursday, November 24, at 6:30 pm, you are cordially invited to the Goethe-Institut Montreal (1626 boul. St-Laurent, Suite 100, Montréal, Québec, H2X 2T1). Come and discover this novel and participate in the conversation as well as in the translation of an excerpt.
After the bilingual event (French/German) we cordially invite you to a glass of wine.
Admission is free, places are limited, so please register via mail@jenniferdummer.com.
Participants:
Annette Beger studied acting and singing in Berlin and Essen. This was followed by several years of engagement at various theaters. From dramaturgy it was only a leap to literature and being a publisher. In 2010 she founded Kommode Verlag.
Marie-Anne Legault is from Abitibi. She moved to Montréal to study communications. Her passion for sharing knowledge led her to write and edit reference books for Québec Amérique. In 2013, she published her first novel, Le museum, which earned her a nomination for the Grand Prix littéraire Archambault. La traque du Phénix is her second novel.
Jennifer Dummer is a translator and blogger. She studied French literature in Mainz, Berlin and Montréal. On jennismusikbloqc.com and quelesen.com she informs about the Québec music and literature scene, and she organizes readings as part of the series Book and you and concerts (Aurores Montréal - BERLIN EDITION). In 2019, she was a Goldschmidt Fellow. In 2020, her bilingual anthology Pareil, mais différent - Genauso, nur anders (dtv) was published with short stories by French Canadian and Québec authors. 2021 published the poetry collection Uiesh. Irgendwo by Joséphine Bacon, translated together with Andreas Jandl, and the novel Reiz der Rache by J. D. Kurtness were published by KLAK Verlag.
