Modernités connectées PUM

Modernités connectées PUM

This roundtable takes as its starting point Modernités connectées. Les transferts littéraires et culturels Québec-Allemagne (XIXe–XXIe siècles), edited by Robert Dion, Louise-Hélène Filion, and Hans-Jürgen Lüsebrink. The discussion will provide a broader overview of the relationship between Germany and Quebec, beginning with the earliest accounts of Québécois travellers in Germany and extending to present-day cultural exchanges. While these ties may not rival the scale of Quebec’s relations with France, Britain, or the United States, Germany has nevertheless occupied a recurring and increasingly significant place in Quebec’s culture. At the same time, Germany too has welcomed numerous artists from Quebec over the past decades.

The relationships between Germany and Quebec are multifaceted, deeply rooted in history, and far closer and more diverse than one might think. Together, the participants will reflect on how literary and cultural exchanges have shaped both societies over time. What does Germany mean to Quebec, and what continues to draw German readers and audiences to Quebec’s literature and culture? These are among the questions that will guide the conversation.
