Goethe/Gasworks Residency

Gasworks and the Goethe-Institut London provide residencies for Germany-based cultural practitioners.

The joint residency programme offered emerging and mid-career artists to live and work in London, providing an environment that encouraged experimentation, critical discourse and the exchange of ideas through practice. It allowed visiting artists to develop projects in response to their new environment, or to conduct research benefiting from London’s resources. Made public through events and Open Studios, these opportunities encouraged interaction and dialogue between international artists and audiences in London.

The first artist in residency was Mario Pfeifer in 2013. During his London time, he worked on a video production about the Western Sahara region. In 2014, Wilhelm Klotzek worked with stand-up comedy as an absurd form of performance art. In the year of 2016, Lina Hermsdorf worked with Gasworks’ archive to examine the Gasworks institution as a living system with which humans interact.
