Cancelled due to a member of the creative team testing positive for Covid-19

The tunes of major pop artists are consumed globally, present in concert halls, bedrooms and karaoke bars. Arab cultural institutions are increasingly publishing bilingual catalogues, newsletters, symposia and curatorial texts. The Arab language is entering a globalised institutional art discourse and has become an active player alongside English, French and German as a key world language. But how accessible is art and its publications?

The subversive Syrian artist trio Fehras Publishing Practices bring high art and popular culture together in a lively karaoke experience. Fehras Publishing Practices have selected poignant texts from their growing archive of bilingual publications and set them to popular tunes by artists such as Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Destiny’s Child and Roberta Flack.

Slots for the karaoke installation are availiable between 1pm and 5pm and have to be booked in advance. The performance takes place at 7pm.

This performance is part of a longer residency delivered in partnership with Delfina Foundation, The Mosaic Rooms and Shubbak, and supported in part by the Goethe-Institut London.
