Heimat – what exactly is it? For some people, it’s a feeling they associate with a certain place, a favourite smell from their childhood, or a dish. In our first Deutsche Runde session of 2023, we want to explore what notions you associate with the concept of Heimat.

Perhaps you live or have lived abroad and have your own ideas about what Heimat means? A number of German writers have also reflected on the topic, and we will familiarise ourselves with some of their thoughts on the subject. There are plenty of interesting aspects linguistically too – can Heimat be translated? Are there any proverbs about it? Join us for an engaging discussion in a friendly group!

'Deutsche Runde' is an informal gathering and exchange around a chosen topic of German language or culture. It is ideal for learners with some knowledge of German (B1 and higher). We meet once a month on a Thursday afternoon.

Participation is free of charge. You can register via Eventbrite, but it is not essential to do so.
