May 1968: Rolling Stones, bell-bottoms, mini-skirts, sexual revolution, protests against the Vietnam War…. While Germany embarks on a new era of freedom, rebellious 14-year-old Wolfgang is confined to Freistatt, a foster home for difficult children. There he is to be “educated” to become a decent boy. Wolfgang puts up a determined resistance to the brutal working
conditions and the perfidious education methods of his warders; he doesn’t allow them to get him down. But for how long
can Wolfgang manage to resist the system of violence and oppression without brutalizing himself? Based on a true story,
Freistatt maps the relentless fight of a boy to save his humanity and dignity in the face of an oppressive system.
