Together with University of Glasgow’s Biodiversity Group and the Glasgow University Environmental Sustainability Team (GUEST), we would like to invite you to a week‑long biodiversity challenge in Kelvingrove Park – and everyone is welcome to join!
From 7 to 14 May 2026, participants are invited to take part in a participatory bioblitz using iNaturalist (Android)/iNaturalist (IPhone), a free app that allows users to record and identify plants, animals and fungi while contributing to a global biodiversity database. This database can be used by researchers and scientists for mapping the development of biodiversity. The challenge can be completed at everyone’s own pace during the week.
No prior expertise is needed to join. Whether you’re completely new to species identification or already familiar with local wildlife, iNaturalist offers an easy way to engage with nature and learn as you go. Observations made within Kelvingrove during this period will be automatically collated through a dedicated project page, creating a shared snapshot of urban biodiversity. Participants can join the project here.
At the end of the week, we warmly invite participants, biodiversity activists and the wider public to an informal closing event at the Goethe‑Institut& Alliance Française Glasgow on 14 May at 6pm. The evening will include a short student‑led reflection on grassroots climate and biodiversity action, followed by an opportunity to celebrate the collective contributions, share experiences and continue the conversation.
Please find below the link to the informal closing event.
This initiative highlights the role of community-led, grassroots collaboration in making biodiversity engagement accessible, linking local observation to wider environmental conversations and action, and is part of the Earth Month programme series and Glasgow Climate Week.
