The first digital book club of 2025 #Meet the Author welcomes Ruth-Maria Thomas as our guest with her debut novel Die schönste Version, which was longlisted for the German Book Prize.

About the book

The excitement of first love completely engulfs Jella and Yannick. Everything seems perfect, until it isn't. What initially seems like a wonderful first relationship is quickly dominated by Yannick's manipulative, violent actions.

In the book club, we talk to Ruth-Maria Thomas about the themes of her novel: sexualised violence in relationships, power and guilt, but also about growing up in East Germany in the early 2010s.

About the author

Ruth-Maria Thomas was born in 1993 and grew up in Cottbus. Alongside her studies at the Leipzig Literature Institute, she was active in youth welfare. She also writes poetry and founded the erotic literary magazine Hot Topic!

WHO CAN TAKE PART?

Everyone who wants to read and discover German literature, meet authors and share their reading experience with others – even if you haven't read the book yet. Participation is free and the conversation will be held in German. All participants should have sufficient language skills to read and take part in the discussion in German.
