Explore Jakarta’s vibrant street food scene with chefs Petty Elliott and Helge Hagemann

Street food, super food, fusion food – while the world of eating and drinking is as dynamic as never before, one thing has stayed the same: nothing connects people from different backgrounds and cultures as much as a pleasurable meal. From Ramadan Iftars in Jakarta to New Year’s Eve in Berlin, food takes the central stage in our social interaction.

On the occasion of the project Wanderlust Küche – A Culinary Dialogue, Goethe-Institut is hosting a Street Food Tour taking you right into the heart of Jakarta. Acclaimed chef, food journalist and cook book author Petty Elliott reveals her favourite spots in town: The participants – along with acclaimed German chef Helge Hagemann – will learn about the origins of Jakarta’s street food culture, what makes it so good and so unique and, of course, everyone is invited to try lots of good food.

The tour will start at Goethe-Institut and makes stops at:

  • Mie Ayam Alok for a hearty breakfast,
  • Glodok for Kopi Es Tak Kie, legendary Chinese ice coffee,
  • Giyanti Coffee Roastery,
  • Javara for a Martabak snack and an introduction to Indonesian spices, and last but not least
  • Pagi Sore for a traditional Padang lunch.

Please come hungry!

Due to a limited number of seats, prior registration is needed!
