Exploring kinship in a collage workshop for children with Ika Vantiani

Artist and curator Ika Vantiani will invite participants to tell stories about a household member using a manual cut and paste technique. The collage is created as a response to an image of a space within the home—the living room, TV room, dining room—and completed with items normally found in the rooms.

Info for Participants

  • This workshop is limited to 10 participants and conforms to strict health protocols.
  • The workshop is for participants between the ages of 7 and 12; if desired, they may be accompanied by an adult to check in via PeduliLindungi application at the entrance of Galeri Nasional Indonesia.

Ika will provide various photos of works from the exhibition of 'Para Sekutu yang Tidak Bisa Berkata Tidak' (The Acquiescent Allies) in various sizes. Participants will choose one of the pictures of the room in the house they use the most and then fill it with pictures of objects and photos of their chosen artworks. They are encouraged to share the excitement about the room of their choice and the people in it. At the end of the workshop, the participants will present their collages.

Through the process of compiling, pasting, and telling stories, participants are invited to create new meanings from existing materials. The process of organizing, changing context, and creating new stories from existing works reflects the process of planning collection-based exhibitions such as Para Sekutu….
