This course will provide teachers with an opportunity to reflect on their own classroom experiences while gaining practical insight into German language teaching theory, methods, and approaches. By the end of the week, participants will feel confident and well-equipped to deliver German classes at 5th and 6th class level, leaving with a corpus of topics and tasks they have developed themselves and can immediately apply in their own schools.

Requirements for Admission:

  • Be a registered primary teacher (participants must use their name as registered with the Teaching Council).
  • Have access to a stable internet connection and a suitable device for synchronous sessions.
  • Commit to completingall 20 hoursin order to receive a completion certificate and qualify for EPV days.
  • Willingness to participate actively in discussions, group tasks, and reflective activities.

Language

  • Basic familiarity with German (A1–A2).

Participant Engagement

Central to this course is active, collaborative learning. Following an initial theoretical input, participants will work with their peers to design and develop their own classroom materials, translating new knowledge into authentic, real-world teaching contexts. This process is designed to ensure that what participants take away is not only theoretically grounded but practically meaningful and ready for use in their own classrooms.

This course is approved by the Department of Education and Youth as part of the Summer Course Programme of the Drumcondra Education Centre. Participating teachers are therefore eligible for EPV days under Rule 58 of the Rules for National Schools, provided they meet all course completion requirements.
