Program of Care
Expressive Musical Relaxation

‘‘An intimate group session focusing on relaxation and expressing emotions through music. The participants were of different age groups ranging from 16 to 60 and their stories were very genuine. They were able to share their feelings, trauma and specific moments in their lives by choosing a song that represented those moments. There was a sense of release, reflection and empathy from others which seemed to help them process those memories in a gentle caring environment. Musically guided imagery and intuitive singing focused mainly on relaxation and creating a sense of connection between the participants. Everyone was surprisingly interactive, complementary and harmonious with the notes each person sang -- all of which were improvised on the spot. Overall, I believe everyone went home with a large portion of the weight off their shoulders.’’

‘‘A musical relaxation session intended to ease the daily struggles of individuals and was conducted through three main sections.
Our first section was generally about listening to music, and all the participants came up with keywords reflecting their feelings about the music and sharing similar feelings that they had on certain occasions.
In the second section, where all of us were sharing favorite music and talking about the drawings that they just made in relation to our personal thoughts and feelings based on various circumstances that happened in our lives, we achieved to sympathize and empathize with each other feelings.
The third section was mainly about self-actualizing through guided imagery and music, where the participants got to settle all the thoughts and feelings that they encountered throughout the session and cleared their minds through activities such as group singing and improvising.
In conclusion, all the participants actively participated throughout the program, and some even joined all the sessions that we provided. We were able to perform our target objectives during the session, and all the participants were able to build a network with each other.’’
