Over its 33 years in existence gelbe MUSIK, Block’s unique record store and gallery, functioned as an important meeting ground for musicians, composers, visual artists and choreographers from all over the world. Artists such as Maryanne Amacher, Henning Christiansen, Romuald Hazoumé, Christina Kubisch, Christian Marclay, Nam June Paik, and Akio Suzuki are among the many artists Block worked with, often presenting their first show in Germany. In addition to programming at gelbe MUSIK, Block was involved in a number of exhibitions dedicated to artist’s records in a variety of locations throughout the mid-1980s. In 1989 Block worked with Michael Glasmeier to co-curate the influential and crucial exhibition
Broken Music at daadgalerie, Berlin. Its title was taken from Milan Knížák, whose concept of the same name served as a leading motto for Block. The accompanying
Broken Music catalogue is still considered to be one of the most extensive of its kind. About two-thirds of the records listed there are in Block’s collection.
