CAVA
Punk@50
As part of “Alle gegen Alles. Punk@50”, the Goethe-Institut together with the dynamic young Berlin punk band, CAVA, are seizing the opportunity to look back, examine the current scene, and also explore what the punk movement might mean in the future. This exploration of ideas, music, and art hits the road stopping in eight American tour markets this Fall.
About the band
CAVA engages listeners with their powerful, high energy live shows delivering songs laced with thoughtful, catchy lyrics mainly raging against sexism, classism, capitalism, but in a pro-feminist and pro-LGBTQ+ rights context. The band has sharpened their skills and demonstrated their stamina with over 200 live shows throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland and beyond. Their sound blends garage and punk, and is dominated by loud, dirty guitar riffs, lots of fuzz, distortion, tons of feedback, but with melodic vocals.
CAVA has been making music since 2020 and released their second full-length album titled, Powertrip, to critical acclaim in November 2024. Mela (drums, vocals) and Peppi (vocals and guitar) connected through an Instagram page that brings together female musicians looking to find band members. When they met in-person, they realized they had been living on the same street, studied the same topic (Musicology), and had loads of interests in common! They clicked immediately. In 2022 they became friends with the Berlin-based musician Lars Paprotta while in tour. They started making music with him when he jumped on guitar so that Peppi could have more freedom to move around on stage, and focus on singing. He’s been touring with CAVA ever since, playing guitar, or bass, and sometimes flute. The band is active on Instagram (@cavacavaca) and their music can be found on YouTube and Bandcamp.
