Punk@50
Alle gegen Alles event series
The epicenters of punk rock in the United States resonated far beyond their borders, influencing scenes around the world, including Germany. But the exchange went both ways: German punk also left its mark on the American scene. The Dead Kennedys, for example, used to play songs by German schlager singer Heino before their concerts just to provoke their audience. In Mexico, punk's political dimension as an anti-authoritarian, destructively constructive movement proved especially significant. There, it became an important force among marginalized communities.
Where does punk stand 50 years later? What role do subcultures play in today's volatile societies? And what does punk mean on either side of the Atlantic today? Locally curated programs by the Goethe-Instituts in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Mexico, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., serve as starting points for an international dialogue on subcultures, protest, and self-determination. Close collaboration with local artists, organizers, and community partners ensures that Alle gegen Alles takes place where punk is actually lived.
